2. Environment Suppliers, as a minimum, will meet all relevant local and national environmental protection laws, and will strive to comply with international environment protection standards, such as ISO 14000 Environmental Management. Supplemental Standards: • Supplier factories must have in place a written environmental policy and an environmental management system designed as a minimum to achieve compliance with national environmental protection laws and, where appropriate, to manage environmental impacts associated with manufacturing activities, such as air emissions, water and waste management, energy use and biodiversity impacts. • Where required by law, environmental records and certificates must be maintained for each factory. Hazardous materials and chemicals will be disposed according to the law so that these materials are not discharged and do not pollute the environment. • Supplier factories must have procedures in place to alert local environmental authorities in the event of accidental discharge of pollutants or for any other environmental emergency. • Supplier factories should be aware of international environment protection standards, such as ISO 14000- Environmental Management, and have a plan to achieve these standards on a continuous improvement basis.
